Have you ever had a panic attack so intense it felt like the world was closing in, and that you were convinced you were about to die? Have you ever felt anxiety so strong that the thought of leaving your home - even for something simple - seemed impossible? Have you ever had to plan your day minute-by-minute just to manage basic tasks? For many people this isn't a bad day or a rough patch. It's daily life.


When Everyday Tasks Become Mountains


Agoraphobia isn't simply 'being afraid to go out'. It's far more complex, and far more misunderstood. When your nervous system is constantly on high alert, even the most ordinary moments can feel threatening.


Something as simple as:


Answering the phone

Getting the shopping

Attending an appointment

Trying to engage in conversation


can feel overwhelming. Your heart races, your breath shortens, and suddenly the walls feel too close. Every small task becomes a strategic operation. Every moment becomes a negotiation with fear.


And then it all starts again the next day.


My Lived Experience


I lived with agoraphobia for decades. Not weeks,. Not months. Decades.


It shaped everything - how I moved, how I planned, how I coped. It is one of the most crippling, all-consuming anxiety disorders, affecting around 1.5 million people in the UK alone. That number should stop us in our tracks. So many struggling. So many hiding it. So many trying to 'get through' silently.


Agoraphobia is not rare.

It is not weakness.

It is not a character flaw.


It is a powerful, exhausting, misunderstood condition - and it deserves to be spoken about openly.


Why I Wrote About It


At a certain point, I realised that keeping the experience to myself wasn't helping anyone - not me, and the people walking a similar road. So I documented the reality of living with agoraphobia, day by day, emotion by emotion, in my book:
